My Previous Microlight

My trusty steed ZU-BUX

ZU-BUX is an Aerotrike Scout Manufactured by Rainbow Aircraft in South Africa.

It is licensed as a Microlight Aircraft which means limited to a maximum All Up Weight of 450kg

It is the perfect beginners plane, since it has a very sturdy undercarriage manufactured from steel as opposed to Aluminium on other aircraft. This means it can endure the occasional rough landings a new pilot makes very well. In addition it has wide wheels which make soft sand landings easy, it also aids in of field rough terrain landings.

It is powered by a Rotax 503 2 cycle engine that delivers 50HP.

With good maintenance these motors are reliable mine did 435 hours without skipping a beat, before I decided to overhaul it.

My airplane easily cruises at 55mph hands of the bar, which means it is right on the speed target with most other aircraft in its category. This makes flying out in groups a lot of fun, since you are not left behind and right there with the whole group the whole time. If anything it is a little bit faster than similar aged models.

This trusty steed has taken me on numerous fly outs, to the lowveld and drakensberg over the mountains at 11,000 ft.
